Dreamgirls was presented by the Yale University Dramat. It was Directed by Rajendra Ramoon Maharaj and was the first African American musical the Dramat had done. Over the course of five productions, the play raised more than $600 for the Women's Recovery Corp., which was matched by a Dramat alum for a total contribution of more than $1,200 towards a $50,000 scholarship fund to provide women addicts and alcoholics safe housing and training in the tools of sobriety. Forty New Haven Pathway to Arts and Humanities students and parents were able to attend Dreamgirls at significantly reduced cost.
